Winter visitors

Probably the prettiest pie I've ever made. I had to take a snapshot.

This week has been a week of routines and simple household tasks. Nothing interesting here. Just waiting out the winter and hoping for an early spring. I've taken to baking often to warm the house and fill it with lovely smells.

We have been experiencing a weekly snowstorm as of late. Last weekend dumped 3 inches of snow with an additional 3 inches of ice! The ice is not nearly as welcome as the snow. But I think people were greater prepared this time around. Though there was more panic before the storm hit our region. Another one forecast for this weekend. It will be amusing to see what the local media will panic about this time!

A sign that the woods are healthy.

Yesterday we had some visitors to our little cove. Three full grown does traipsed across our snowy hillside looking for some exposed greenery.

She was eying my box hedges! But a neighbor came up the drive and frightened her away.

It's odd how animals seem to gravitate towards our family. Our neighbor told us that there were not many wild things about until recently. Since we have moved into the area however, there has been a black bear, two types of hawk, turkeys, deer, coyote, foxes, and a great horned owl. Jake and I feel a little responsible!

Our first winter here is almost over, it has been one year to the day since we first signed a contract on this house. And what a journey!! Each season has brought more discovery and more lessons. We can only hope that next year will be as bountiful!!
